Mary Gunderson’s watery approach already appeared once before on this blog (“Behind the Red Door”). While some might call it verging on New Age, I fail to see why a) this actually matters and b) where the rationale comes from. In my opinion, this kind of track has too much momentum, drive, and intent for stereotypical New Age (although such stereotypes have changed a great deal over the years, for those of you who didn’t bother to notice). The artist often self-labels her work as ambient and related categories, and this is perfectly true. If you want a good meander with plenty of keyboard meat to chew on, try this song.
