A few years ago, Tori Amos put aside her alternative music hat for a spell and released a rough equivalent to a song cycle album, Night of Hunters. These songs were based on classical themes and motifs. For those who wanted to bask in the instrumental glory of the songs, a version sans vocals was also made available. This is one of the tenser, smoother cuts from the instrumental album. Prior to Hunters, instrumentals were somewhat uncommon for her (outside of B-sides and live bootlegs, of course), so I relish in this one despite the fact that it’s more like a re-arrangement of a classical piece rather than an innovative new composition.
